2009 Surly 1 x 1 Rat Ride

This bike is not for sale. The bikes and parts we currently have for sale can be found on the MOMBAT for sale page.

Surly started out as 1x1 in 1998 with a Cro Moly single speed frame.  The bike was named the 1x1 Rat Ride as the Surly name didn't surface until 1999.  To commemorate the 11th anniversary of Surly/1x1, they designed a special Rat Rod model.  Frames were painted black with red accents and red component details.  The bikes were disc brake only and came with a slick street tire.  This one had the slicks replaced with knobbies for off-road duty.  The Mr. Whirly crank came with 2 chain rings set up as a "dinglespeed" (Double single speed).  The ratios were set up so you could use both chain rings by moving the wheel in the drop outs to take up the chain slack. 500 were produced with about 350 going overseas, especially into Japan.  The 150 left for the US weren't big sellers, likely due to the 24" wheels with slick tires.  It was an interesting bike but didn't have a specific "purpose".
