1995 Dan/Ed

Still working on getting some more information on the Dan/Ed bikes so this is mostly from observation. As with many designers, they decided to really change a bunch of things at once.  The belt drive hadn't been tried before that I am aware of.  The frame uses vertical dropouts which don't allow the use of different sized cogs or account for any belt stretch.  The suspension consists of a pair of CNC side plates that pivot around the bottom bracket and activate a large elastomer chunk held in place on the frame by a "pocket" on the down tube.  Component choices consist of a Sachs 7 speed internal hub with a Marinovative rear brake and Sachs front brake and levers.  Front hub appears to be a Dan/Ed piece but is not labeled.  The Dan/Ed cranks are attached to a 6 sided bottom bracket spindle with a small bolt.  The whole bottom bracket assembly is unique to the bike and rolls on sealed cartridge bearings.  The top and down tubes are square tubing and the cables are held in place with plastic clamps.  Overall, a very interesting attempt at making a unique mountain bike but one that would have needed several more design iterations to make it competitive.
