1996 Trek Y 22

Back Home Up Next

The Trek Y series bikes were a pretty popular full suspension bike when the first arrived.  Who remembers the "Yes" and guitar ads?  The featured a Unified Rear Triangle (URT) design that put the entire drivetrain on one side of the pivot.  This eliminated the dreaded pedal feedback but at the expense of suspension compliance, especially when standing.  As suspension design and shock technology improved, the minuses started to outweigh the pluses and the design was replaced.  The Y-33 featured nicer parts while the Y-22 would have been outfitted with a Deore XT/LX mix.  This bike has been upgraded to a full 1996 Deore XT kit with carbon bars and Spinergy Rev X carbon wheels.  While not "correct", the parts definitely fit the theme of the bike.  All in all, one of the more memorable designs of the mid-1990's.
