1981 Bruiser

Home Up

The Bruiser was an early bike available through Ira's Bike Shop in the early 1980's.  There were likely 20 or less of them produced and this was the last one made with the rear drum brake.  The fork was originally a Tange BMX fork with added braze-ons which was fairly quickly replaced by the Stumpjumper fork that currently resides on the bike.  Rody, of Groove Cycle Works, did a great job on the paint which really highlights the fork crown.  Rody does a fair amount of "restoration" work on older bikes so give him a shout if you have a project.  Check out the before and after photos below to get an idea of what is possible.  Neat touches include the braze-on pump hanger and Campagnolo drop outs.  It appears as if some of the components were upgraded at about the same time as the fork so we tried to put back on more original parts for circa 1981/82.
